White Gum Building Project 1
This small but comfortable custom architectural build by White Gum Building is full of modern features and seamlessly incorporates the surrounding nature. Working with a tight budget, the team at White Gum Building used cost effective materials without compromising on quality to create this unique home that perfectly suited the client’s needs. White Gum Building carried out this sophisticated masterpiece in collaboration with the architect, Mt Eyk Architecture, and the client, Peta Walter.
The open-plan, one-bedroom house expertly utilises the sloping site with a meandering downhill garden, using terracing and trees to create a beautiful green space. Indoor plants, decking and wooden features create a flow from outside to inside, especially in the main bathroom as the shower is situated in front of sliding doors that open to the side garden. The bathroom also features a wooden bathtub, adding to the natural feel of the home.
The flooring is constructed of burnished concrete slabs, tying the interior with the exterior Cemintel Barestone cladding. The cladding and concrete slabs are also energy efficient as they retain the winter sun and work to cut down on excess heating. The suspended slab floor of the main dwelling serves as a ceiling for the cosy studio in the undercroft that is designed to be used for short stay accommodation.
