Troy Leaman Building Project 2
Producing absolute excellence in construction and design, Troy Leaman Building has worked alongside Susanne Lindstrom-Wilson from Coastline Design & Drafting to achieve this seamless home extension and renovation, with significant input from the homeowner, who provided the team with a well-thought-out platform with which to work.
The core feature of the updated dwelling is the expansion itself – impressive to say the least. Troy Leaman Building inserted a second storey to the originally single-storey home, adding a wealth of space. There is a seamless transition from the old house to the new addition, which moulds in so well that it appears to have always been part of the heritage suburb. The previous weatherboard façade has been retained and the use of Jarrah cladding in the same profile maintains the external aesthetic, with a fresh edge.
Modern and traditional designs combine within the home. Highlighting the more traditional side are the authentic profile skirting, architraves and hanging rails in the master bedroom, which give it an elegant, old-world feel.
The charming entryway and beautiful staircase continue this expression of the heritage style. Rich jarrah flooring contrasts gently with the soft white walls, while the transparent door, dado panelling and feature pendant lights draw the eye, making the entryway warm and inviting.
The spacious open-plan family room boasts a more contemporary aesthetic, particularly the kitchen, which showcases clean-cut stone benches, an industrial-sized oven and simple yet stylish rangehood. A sizeable dining and lounge area accommodate the rest of the space, allowing for holistic family time.
This light-filled living space flows through wide bi-fold doors out onto the lovely backyard and pool to create an inside-outside entertainment area. A longer, narrower pool fenced by frameless glass has been cleverly chosen to work within the modest lot, providing the homeowner this extra luxury without overpowering the available space. The result is modern and classy.
A rustic pathway made from recycled red bricks leads to the separate laundry room, complementing the home’s heritage features and contrasting against the fresh new lawn. Extra care was taken to maintain the existing landscaping during the renovation, which mainly consists of vibrant hedges that add a pop of natural green.
