The owner of this City Beach property wanted a lush, mature garden that would provide instant impact, complement the scale of the house and soften the minimal, modern architecture of the house and the large outdoor spaces that it created. Given the house’s proximity to the coast, designers Tim Davies and Levi Carter from Tim Davies Landscaping recognised that the planting palette needed to be closely considered to create a landscape that would not only look great, but be able to withstand the associated conditions. The sourcing of mature trees and plant species was a major factor in creating the feel of an established garden overnight. Clear and constant communication with the client regarding plant species ensured that the right selection or each space was made. The mature olives at the front of the property tie the front elevation into its coastal setting, while the star jasmine and frangipani trees work to create an established garden that enhances the outdoor experience. Chindarsi Architects created a great space in the central courtyard that needed an equally stunning tree to complement it. Tim Davies Landscaping’s solution was a spectacular mature poinciana tree.

Along with the planting, custom ornamentation was incorporated within the landscape to tie in with the materials used by the architect and to provide points of interest throughout the garden. Large custom graphite granite bowls and a custom solid granite planter tie in with the beautiful Spanish sandstone that was selected by the architect as the outdoor pavement. The resulting landscape design is minimal and contemporary, combining high-quality finishes with mature, lush planting to create habitable spaces that work aesthetically.
