Perth Timber Floors was approached by the owner of this heritage home to match and extend the century-old jarrah
floorboards throughout the new kitchen, dining and family-room extensions.

Achieving a seamless blend with the original natural-hardwood floors proved to be a challenge due to a scarcity of matching timber, as well as having to marry the existing joist-and-bearer framework to the new concrete slab. Perth Timber Floors accomplished a remarkable result through the use of 100 per cent recycled timber, which was an environmentally conscious solution. A year prior to installation, the company liaised with the builders of the extension to acquire the correct pour of the recessed concrete slab. Before laying the floorboards, a batten was carefully installed across the slab and original framework to ensure the perfect level was achieved.

The 71m² span of the newly installed recycled timber and 95m² of existing floorboards were sanded and polished to achieve a unified finish. All floorboards were then treated with a tough polyurethane finish for a long-lasting glossy result. The sturdy finish is particularly useful in the kitchen, in which the client – who is a professional pastry chef – spends much of their time.
