Makin Homes Project 6
Set amongst the sand dunes of Mandurah, this timeless entry is a perfect example of blending in with natural surroundings. Designer Leon House was approached to perfect the client’s vision of an organic home that didn’t overwhelm the already abundant landscape it was built in. A simple approach was taken to create a standout home, making use of in-situ concrete and concrete-polished brick throughout the building. A naturally faded timber was utilised for decking and wall cladding to promote a healthy aging process, ensuring that the home evolves with its surroundings.
Warmth brims in every nook and cranny of this masterpice. Makin Homes kept in line with the owners’ request of retaining a mid-century vibe indoors and outdoors. It is evident outdoors with the copious amount of cacti planted to retain the desert feel, as well as washed aggregate combined with a galvanised steel fencing to keep it exclusive.
An interesting detail to note is the submarine helm that greets you at the entrance of the home. From here onwards, you will notice several cantilevered window seats which were the result of collaboration between the three parties and offer more light to disperse in the kitchen. If guests wish to look out onto either of the vast balconies and take in the beautiful sunset of Silver Sands, they can do so with vigor.
