This striking double-storey home draws inspiration from Eastern and Western architecture. An architect himself, the client had a clear vision for a functional, sophisticated and low-maintenance residence. Driven by a strong cultural belief in family unity, the client also wanted a home that could accommodate multiple generations, without compromising on comfort, design or style. Working in close collaboration with the client, the team at Devrite Homes of Distinction created a warm and inviting dwelling that caters to the needs of every family member, from the youngest child through to the live-in grandparents. Featuring secluded areas for solitude and reflection, as well as communal areas in which the whole family can come together to share meals and enjoy each other’s company, the home strikes the perfect balance between privacy and interaction.

The lavish and well-appointed kitchen features a 4.6m x 1.2m island bench, dual extraction fans, a chilled- and boiling-water outlet and an induction cooktop, as well as a steam oven, conventional oven and a microwave oven. The adjacent scullery and food-storage area caters for the clients’ passion for gourmet cooking. The expansive parents’ wing comes with ‘his and hers’ home offices and walk-in wardrobes, as well as a large en suite and separate toilet. This section of the home is separated by a large pivot door, which allows the children to use the front of the home for study or recreation with friends. The large enclosed backyard is set slightly below the alfresco area, and provides the ideal spot for the children to play with the family dog.

As with all Devrite Homes of Distinction projects, the double-brick home was designed with energy efficiency in mind. Suspended concrete slabs with cavity insulation combine with cross-flow ventilation to ensure the house maintains a comfortable temperature throughout the year, while the gas hot-water system, tinted glazing, low-flow tapware and LED lighting ensure it’s also highly economical. The grandparents’ wing comes complete with a powder room and an outdoor relaxation area, as well as a massive bedroom that includes a separate walk-in wardrobe and a well-appointed en suite. This allows the elder generation to live independently within their own space.
