Classic & Contemporary Homes
Built by Classic & Contemporary Homes and designed by Linda Dixon, this four-bedroom home is innovative as it is functional. The clients wanted to create a spacious and environmentally-friendly abode for their growing family, with a large communal area for socialising, and separate rooms to allow for privacy. To achieve the brief, the team positioned the house on an angle facing north for solar passivity, and included high windows and large eaves to encourage plenty of natural light and air flow. A GT200 Pioneer 200,000-litre water tank, solar panels, and a genZ LFP battery management system were also installed to optimise energy storage and promote off-grid living.
The façade features an eclectic mix of materials and finishes, including marbled rammed earth walls by Rammed Earth Alternatives, which continue through the entryway, as well as a COLORBOND corrugated iron roof, and BGC Nuline fibre cement weatherboard cladding to satisfy a moderate bushfire zoning (BAL29).
By zoning the interior of the home into three main sections – an entertaining space, parent’s retreat, and children’s play area – the team utilised every inch of the design. The open-plan kitchen, living and dining area showcases 4.5-metre-high ceilings with steel beams, as well as louvre windows, and Himalayan salt lamps imbedded within the earth wall. The alfresco area can be accessed via a glass aluminium sectional door for a seamless flow.
The home also includes a games room, study, butler’s pantry and walk-in cool room in the kitchen, as well as walk-in wardrobes in all the bedrooms, two bathrooms with jarrah benchtops, and an en suite with a tiled feature wall designed by South west mosaic artist, Jaky Pinnock.
