From humble beginnings in a Perth garage more than a decade ago, Averna Homes has grown to become one of Western Australia’s – and the nation’s – most well-regarded boutique builders.

“The company in my garage on August 1st 2007,” says managing director Paul Serra. “I started Averna Homes because I’d worked for two of the largest building companies in Perth and felt that people were missing out on the personal touch. I wanted to create a boutique company that build fewer homes, more attention on the clients and the quality of the product.”

Now a nationally recognised, award-winning company, Averna Homes has firmly established itself as a leader in the luxury-housing industry.

Serra regards the team at Averna Homes as his family – he’s proud that they share his passion for building bespoke homes, and that they are personally invested in each project.

“ point of difference is passion,” he explains. “ have the same enthusiasm and drive for building as I have, and they know each and every client extremely well.

“Averna Homes can offer the personal touch because we’re small,” Serra continues. “We have the resources of a large-scale company, but we build homes to ensure we give the right quality and service to our clients.”

When he established the company, Serra had a clear goal of building unique, custom-designed homes. More than a decade later, he has remained true to his original intention. “Starting with a blank sheet of paper, we design your dream home to suit your block of land and family requirements,” he says. “This is how the process begins. The client explains what they’re looking for, and our designers could spend up to three months meeting with them at their home to find out exactly what they want.”

Serra reflects fondly on all the projects that Averna Homes has built over the last decade. He has a personal affection for each property, and feels proud that he’s been there to personally hand over the keys to each and every client.

“Every home we build is a standout for us,” he says. “I love the exceptional design and attention to detail that is showcased in all of our custom homes; it’s what makes me get out of bed every morning! It’s just amazing to see the end result.

“The difference with us is that we spend a lot of time at the front end before we go to the site,” Serra continues. “This ensures the plans are 100 per cent correct before we begin construction. While we can alter things on site if required, it never happens because we spend so much time researching and developing with our clients beforehand.”

Averna Homes received national recognition for its meticulous approach to home building when it won the prestigious Housing Industry Association (HIA) Australian Spec Home of the Year award for 2017. The award-winning home showcased an innovative, carefully considered design, with the judges commending the sharp lines and striking colour palette.

Beneath the accolades, it’s business as usual at Averna Homes. The company is currently building its largest project to date – a riverside property on Melville Beach Road in Applecross. “It’s on a different level,” Serra says. “We’re working closely with the client to make their dream come true, and it’s going to be incredible.”

Intended to showcase the exciting potential of narrow lots, the company’s newest display home in Como is also underway. “Other than that, our heads are down,” says Serra. “We’re focussed on servicing our clients and continuing our passion for building high-quality, custom-designed homes.”
