Central to the home’s success are the cutting-edge window and door systems from Kömmerling Australia — a globally recognised leader in uPVC technology. With roots dating back to 1897 and a footprint in more than 119 countries, Kömmerling is renowned for delivering sustainable, energy-efficient solutions tailored to local climates.
Having spent years in draughty, poorly insulated homes, the clients set out to create a living space focused on thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and architectural integrity. The answer: a passive house design enhanced by airtight, high-performance windows and doors to ensure year-round comfort and minimal energy use.
To bring this vision to life, the clients partnered with Hocking Constructions, a builder known for precision and expertise in energy-efficient homes. Hocking teamed up with local window specialist DoubleGlazed.com, who custom-fabricated Kömmerling’s systems to meet the project’s specific design and performance goals.
Every aspect of the window and door configuration was strategically planned to optimise the home’s performance. North-facing glazing and elevated windows allow for passive winter heating, while their thoughtful placement encourages natural cross-ventilation in summer, reducing the need for mechanical climate control. The result is a consistent and comfortable indoor environment throughout the year.
Aesthetics were equally important. Thanks to Kömmerling’s wide selection of colours, decorative laminates, and finishes, the windows and doors seamlessly align with the home’s contemporary design while complementing its heritage features.
Despite the architectural complexity, including intricate rooflines and structural details, the home achieved an impressive 7.5-star NatHERS rating — a clear demonstration of what’s possible when smart design meets top-tier products and craftsmanship.
