Devrite Homes of Distinction Project 5

The original brief for this abode called for a combination of timeless style, comfort, functionality and a sense of the outdoors, while achieving low running costs and little maintenance. Devrite Homes of Distinction loves a challenge and approached this project with gusto. The clients were an elderly couple who wanted to transition from their picturesque and tranquil orchard in Perth hills to an equally tranquil site close to the river. Most importantly, they wanted to replicate the same open-plan feel they had become accustomed to in their current semi-rural location.

Jay Mangano, owner of Devrite Homes of Distinction, felt an immediate connection with the homeowners – who shared a similar country upbringing. The final product was the result of a collaborative effort between the Devrite Homes of Distinction team and the clients; a home that far exceeded their expectations.

The kitchen is undoubtedly the focal point of this home; a spacious hub where warm memories are made, and family and friends can gather to share stories. With a country-feel and sense of family evident throughout the dwelling, all the elements needed to make a house a home are on display here.

The garden is well and truly established now, with birds nesting and fresh lemons ready to be picked from the branch. Devrite Homes of Distinction used many of the sentimental concepts from the owners’ previous property as a blueprint to give the clients the same sense of home. Subtle memories of the old farmhouse shine through with a perfect balance between nostalgia and contemporary fixtures. The clean lines and pristine, white cabinetry complement the modern updates of the new home.

The kitchen is distinctly modern in its design but retains a homey feel with the inclusion of soft-close drawers and warm timber shelves and floorboards. The kitchen also features a nearby laundry and an adjoining butler’s pantry. A recurring feature in modern home designs, the butler’s pantry has exceptional storage and cleaning potential to keep the main kitchen free from mess and clutter. The pantry is fitted with a microwave, dishwasher, double sink, ample shelves and sleek, finger-pull cabinetry.

The bathrooms include equally modern fixtures; matching stone floor and walls, a walk-in shower and floating vanities. Both the shower and adjoining powder room are wheelchair accessible. The touch of timber in the vanity softens the design, echoing the same warmth found throughout the home.

Within the building industry, Devrite Homes of Distinction has become synonymous with personal service, quality and integrity. Founded in 2003 by Ron and Jay Mangano, the company was derived from the strong desire to share the same set of values that would give back to the industry.

Based in metropolitan Perth and specialising in custom-built homes, Devrite Homes of Distinction has a strong focus on exceptional customer service and meticulous attention to detail. The company’s ethos is to create a home from a blank canvas that suits the preferences, requirements and needs of its clients. The team strives to ensure each project is constructed with the utmost care and consideration.

As a testament to its quality builds, the company received numerous accolades at the 2019 Master Builders-Bankwest Housing Excellence Awards, and was named a finalist in the Best Contract Home $450,000–$550,000 and Best Multi-Unit Development 2-5 Units categories. In the 2018 Master Builders-Bankwest Housing Excellence Awards, it won Best Ancillary Dwelling, and was a finalist in the Best Contract Home $750,000–$800,000 category. The company was also named winner of the 2018 Housing Industry Association (HIA) Western Australian Excellence in Service Award – Small Builder category.
