The designers at YU Interior were tasked with completing this home’s decorative interior in a way that was complementary to the distinctive, postmodernist style adopted by the architects at Craig steere Architects.

The team at YU Interior began with lappato-finish porcelain tiles in charcoal for the main living areas and the wet areas, which became the foundation for the other selections to follow. engineered Caesarstone benchtops in ‘osprey’ and shepherd Craft cabinetry in rich American walnut veneer enhance the neutral, contemporary colour scheme, while floor-to-ceiling linen-look sheer curtains in warm grey tones soften the hard surfaces.

YU Interior chose key pieces of furniture to highlight the home’s strengths. the custom-designed tan leather sofa is a perfect accompaniment to the walnut-hued cabinetry, while a high bar and barstools allow for magnificent views of the harbour. the television is conveniently remote-controlled to lower into its cabinet when idle so that it does not obstruct the stunning views of the swan river.

Project 1

Yu Interior’s aim is to create environments for each and every individual client that feels like a sanctuary – a place that they can retreat to at the end of each day and feel balanced and calm.

Owner Norinda Lewis says having an intuitive feel for colour, lighting and design means she feels it is incredibly important for homeowners to rekindle their connection with their lifestyle and create beautiful, inspired interiors that they will love. The company’s award-winning designers bring emphasis back to the application and have an appreciation of natural materials that they believe comprises excellent design.

When Yu Interior owner Norinda Lewis met with building designer Nick Del Paggio from NDP Design and builder Azure Construction for this project, her passion to create interiors that become a sanctuary was instantly ignited.

This stunning home with bold, striking lines and distinctive street presence has been designed to become the ultimate family sanctuary – a spacious home, perfect for indoor-outdoor entertaining.

The scope of the project encompassed Yu Interior supplying the interior design service, window treatments, custom furnishings, wallpaper, rugs, homewares, mirrors and artwork.

The focus for the colour scheme stemmed from the natural silver travertine floor, sourced from Beyond Stone. A combination of light and dark timber veneers were teamed with manufactured stone, natural marble benchtops, mirror splashbacks, glass, stainless steel and natural timber.

Window treatments were carefully selected to ensure windows were exploited to their best potential. Sheer curtains to soften the hard surfaces lead the eye outward towards the river views, while motorised sunscreen rollerblinds ensure the quality control of light entering the room and maximise energy-efficiency.

Yu Interior has one of Perth’s largest ranges of wallpaper books. A unique feature of the home is the glass wall elevator installed by Grant Elevators. As visitors ride the three-storey lift they have the pleasure of viewing a wallpaper collage of iconic New York buildings. Another unique addition is the realistic leather-look wallpaper applied as a backdrop for the concealed cistern in the powder room.

The house, on the corner block of The Avenue in Nedlands, is set to become a neighbourhood landmark, demonstrating the high calibre of work for which Yu Interior is renowned. In the last three years, the company has contributed to a number of HIA and MBA award-winning projects.

Yu Interior prides itself on honesty and integrity, with most of the company’s business coming from client referrals. The company is committed to being a frontrunner in the interior design industry.
