This gorgeous home, designed by David Wilkes Design, feels very spacious because of its use of high ceilings, extra-high doors throughout each room and the wide expanses of glass that carefully protect the homeowners from the elements. With an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that all look out on the north-facing lawn and gardens, the home feels open and lets in an abundance of natural light.

In contrast, the main bedroom looks onto a private courtyard with sliding door access and a luxurious ensuite and large walk-in wardrobe to create an indulgent retreat for the homeowners.

To create a standout home, the highest-quality finishes and attention to detail were utilised. From the oversized commercial glass entry door to the custom-made perforated steel mesh screens and timber veneer cabinets, the home is bespoke but also functional. Floating vanity units and stone benchtops, paired with Italian limestone tiling throughout the home, create a sense of luxury while still maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic.

The brief for David Wilkes Design was to create a compact single-storey home with a relaxed beach-style ambience. This seaside aesthetic was achieved through the use of natural materials such as limestone and timber, as well as a neutral colour palette.

The space, despite being on such a small site, has been utilised by minimising passages within the home. In addition, the alfresco and outdoor living spaces have been placed at the front of the house so the house can sit on the southern end. The size of the site, being only 270m², would usually dictate a two-storey home but the clients’ desire to remain on a single-storey meant the home could be finished within their budget.

David Wilkes Design specialises in custom-designed individual homes that showcase the unique requirements of each client. Working to achieve bespoke yet functional spaces, David Wilkes Design works through the northern beaches and Perth metropolitan area.
