Pictured here is a contemporary framed construction home that sits directly on the beachfront at Madora Bay, south of Perth. Designed by Rob Skipworth of the award-winning Eco Designer Homes, the beach house is a striking example of design meeting the natural elements of beach life. The upper level of the home allows the residents to take in the sweeping ocean views from the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. A protected central decking area links the living spaces with the master bedroom affording protection from the late afternoon sea breezes.

The balcony across the front of the home gives the clients the opportunity to enjoy wonderful sunsets over the ocean. The upper flooring is bamboo and the lower level is a maintenance-free polished concrete. The stairs to the first floor continue the theme as each tread is polished concrete complemented with stainless steel glass balustrading.

The kitchen benchtop is stone and the home is fitted with a solar hot water system. The home is built to withstand the coastal conditions. Exterior finishes include Bluescope steel Colourbond, Masterwall insulated panelling and Hardie’s range of Scyon products, and both the decking and balcony are constructed of maintenance-free CorrectDeck. This will give the owners years of maintenance-free enjoyment of their home in the varying conditions of a coastal environment.

Building Edge specialises in the construction of new homes, extensions and renovations in the Perth metropolitan area. Construction sites have ranged from beachside Yanchep in the north to Bedfordale in the hills and down to the seaside city of Mandurah in the south.

With more than 30 years in the Western Australian construction industry and after working for large residential home builders for many years, Bill Hughes set up Building Edge in 2006 to offer his clients a personal construction service.

Listening to his clients and building relationships with them while delivering quality construction of their new home or project is Building Edge’s priority.

Building seven to ten homes per year, clients’ individual projects range from as low as $350,000 right up to $2 million. Bill’s experience varies from constructing multi-unit site developments to individual, architect-designed multi-storey homes. His progressive approach and extensive experience in an ecologically aware environment makes him a valuable asset in assessing the requirements of his clients’ projects through to construction.

Building Edge offers the complete building perspective: tailoring clients’ projects to suit their site, budget, style and energy requirements, providing clients with the comfort of personalised service and flexibility through each stage of their project; and delivering quality construction using both traditional and innovative building methods, products and finishes. Located in the popular inner city suburb of Subiaco this urban townhouse was built to give the owners a luxury lifestyle, and meets their requirements for maximising light and openness while also providing them with plenty of storage.

The home was designed by architect Patric de Villiers to afford the owners maximum privacy without sacrificing the views onto the beautiful tree-lined park below. It is situated on a 185m2 block.

Its rendered double brick and steel roof construction is set-off on both sides by beautiful external Toodyay stone walls. Commercial grade aluminium windows and doorframes were used throughout. Stone benchtops were used throughout and the neutral palette deÅLcor of the home was coordinated by Norinda Gibbons of Yu Interior.

Suitable for construction of homes by the beach, in the hills or for city living, Building Edge has built homes of quality and class utilising a number of framed construction methods. These homes are finished in a variety of reusable and sustainable finishes. The build time is fast and efficient and particularly suits challenging sites.

Clients of luxury single and multi-storey residences of brick construction also receive the benefit of personal service, where the focus of each client’s specific needs is met throughout the duration of the project.
