For this project, Builderwest worked closely with the client and designer Broadview Design to complete this impressive two-storey home. Custom-designed and -built, the brief requested a transitional Hamptons-inspired home with a high level of custom finishes.

The client approached Builderwest with a preliminary plan of the house and Broadview Design presented the final drawings. During the construction process, Builderwest’s Ryan Smith pitched ideas to improve the layout without altering the brief. High emphasis was placed on orienting the home toward the north to make the most of the available light.

The home’s exterior includes feature corbelling along its front to create a striking street presence and comply with the brief; a balcony with wooden balustrading completes the fac?ade. Inside, the home opens to reveal a spacious design with ‘Roasted Peat’ floorboards that create a warm and inviting feel.

To contrast with the timber flooring, a 3m island stone bench was installed in the kitchen for a contemporary look. The kitchen’s white colour palette, as opposed to the cream shade used throughout the rest of the home, gives it a clean and modern feel, which helps it to appear more spacious.

Custom-designed two-pack fitted cabinetry provides plenty of storage and keeps the space uncluttered. Beige marble floor tiles have been used in the bathroom to complement the bathroom’s white floor-to-ceiling wall tiles, and the different shades help to break up the understated palette.

A U-shaped staircase leads to the upper level of the home, which houses the sleeping quarters. Its shape allows maximum natural light into the house, as does the open-void front entrance.

A travertine-floored L-shaped alfresco, which provides plenty of room for outdoor entertainment, overlooks the pool to ensure homeowners can always keep a watchful eye over the area. To ensure the house remains clean after swimmers enjoy a dip, an outdoor shower has been built into the eave.

A high level of detail is evident throughout the home, from the standard of finish in the flooring, lighting, tapware and cabinetry, to the sphere pendant light included above the front entrance.

Although challenges presented themselves during the build, solutions were found quickly thanks to Smith’s experience, and the project was completed an impressive three months sooner than planned.Cavity wall insulation around the whole house, roof batts, smart glass windows and solar panels help to save on energy, making this home not only stylish, but practical too.
